Letter from Our Grow Expert
A grow along was something i have wanted to do for awhile! To have a small group of growers examining and following your every move, to help educate and expand their minds and growing knowledge with real, hardcore, science-based growing tech and practices that have been tested over my years of experience. So far, it has been quite interesting! We have formed a tight sub-community within our discord, that i have coined as "The Disciples of Hydro". The Disciples of Hydro are a small group of growers that are in the pursuit of knowledge, experience, and tools needed to grow high yielding and quality plants. The community has enjoyed chopping it up about strains, growing techniques, and bouncing ideas around to help improve their grows!
One thing I have noticed about having our own sub-community, is how open we are. I believe that because we are all required to post weekly updates. And in doing so, it requires all of the Disciples to be kind of open vulnerable; posting your plant every week regardless of how it looks and is doing leaves you open for criticism and feedback. Vulnerability opens the door up to ones authentic self. There is no hiding behind pictures, posts, or long typed out messages. When we do these types of things, or go through these types of experiences together, it fosters community, shows trust within the group, encourages communication and collaboration, and helps build an overall strong community through personal growth! This growth has touched on much more than just successfully growing a plant to harvest. It has addressed and included aspects of personal connection, humanity, being a good person, and bringing individuals together; therefore transcending the divisiveness of today's socio-political climate.
The early weeks, in germination, went by quickly. Some of the growers had issues with the seeds they received; which unfortunately set them back about a week. Regardless of the small setback, they were able to push through and get plants started and actively growing in the vegetative stage. But again, there is not such a thing as a perfect run, and we encountered some issues. This time, on my behalf; i had been using a small space heater hooked up to the R300 power strip to keep the environment at a proper temperature. However, this caused the heater to run for too long, which was also warming the water. The water was staying too warm, which caused nutrient precipitation, or "fallout". Fallout happens or Precipitates form when there are sudden or large swings in temperature of the nutrients solution, or the solutions gets too warm/cold. The nutrients “precipitate”-going from a dissolved mineral in a solution, to insoluble solid particles. These solids then settle to the bottom of the reservoir or adhere to surfaces, creating a visible film or residue. Fortunately, this was an easy issue to fix and was caught before any serious issues came about!
Although there are a few that are all ready to start flowering, in the coming weeks the Disciples and I will be getting deep into training, trimming, yield maximization, and a bunch of tricks I have accumulated throughout the years!
